Chapter 5 · Workflows

5.5Sewing a Seam

To stitch one garment to another:

  1. Make sure both garments carry the same Solver instance. This is the one hard requirement.
  2. On the garment that carries the seam, add Tnpix Channel, create a channel (for example seam) and paint the points along the seam line. Only painted points stitch.
  3. Add Tnpix Stitch. Choose the channel, click Add and pick the garment to stitch to, or turn on Stitch to self for a rolled cuff or a tucked flap.
  4. Read the status line. If it says the points are out of reach, raise Search distance or move the pieces closer in the modelled pose. If it says how many points are stitched, you are set.
  5. Set Tightness 1.0 to sew the seam shut, or 0 to keep the modelled gap as a rigid tack; Strength around 0.5 holds, 0.8 and above is rigid.
  6. Play. With the Stitch panel open, the stitch lines are drawn once the simulation has been built.

Gaps between stitch points where the paint is sparse are a paint question: paint more of the seam and they close. To keep a small gap between the two cloths, for example for a piping, set Offset.
