Chapter 4 · The TenPix Toolbar
4.7Quick Soft Body
Quick Cloth's twin for soft bodies, which are experimental (see Tnpix Soft Body in the reference): select one or more closed meshes and click one button. It paints for you what a soft body needs held or sewn, and adds the modifiers in the right order.
- Pick start bone / Pick end bone Optional
- The bones, or helpers linked to them, that the muscle's two ends follow. Pick both or neither; right-click a button to clear it.
- Held ends (% of length) Default 5
- How much of the muscle's length, at each end, is held: the tip of each tendon.
- Auto tension (the bones drive it) Default on
- The Soft Body's Auto tension: the fibres tense by themselves as the bones close in. Off, animate Activation on the Soft Body panel.
- Make Selected Muscle
- Gives each selected closed mesh, from the bottom up: Tnpix Channel with two maps painted for you, start and end (the points within the Held ends share of its length at each end); Tnpix Soft Body, Material Muscle, its fibre line from the start bone to the end bone, or along the mesh's own length when no bone is picked; a Tnpix Pin on start following the start bone and one on end following the end bone (with no bones, both hold their points where they are); Tnpix Gravity; Tnpix Solver.
- Pick muscle to slide on Optional
- A muscle that already has its Tnpix Solver, for example one made with Make Selected Muscle.
- Friction Default 0.3
- How hard the fat slides over the muscle: 0 slides freely, 1 does not slide. A layer at 0 can buzz.
- Make Selected Fat
- Gives each selected closed mesh a Tnpix Soft Body, Material Fat. With a muscle picked, the side of the fat that faces the muscle is painted for you into a map, on_muscle, and sewn to the muscle by a Tnpix Stitch with Slide along the surface on, and the fat shares the muscle's Tnpix Solver and Tnpix Gravity, so the two simulate together. With no muscle it gets Tnpix Gravity and a Solver of its own: a loose soft object.
- Resolution (tets across) Default 40 / Keep volume Default on
- The Soft Body's own Resolution and Keep volume.
- Add gravity Default on
- Adds Tnpix Gravity; a fat on a muscle shares the muscle's.
- Pick collider (optional) / Clear
- An object to add to a Tnpix Collision list on every object a click makes.
The status line under the buttons says what each click made and how many points each painted map holds. A mesh that is not closed is skipped, with its open edges counted, and so is a mesh that already has a Tnpix Solver or a Tnpix Soft Body. One Undo takes a whole click back. A new Solver has no ground: pick a collider, or turn on the Solver's Unlimited ground, for the soft body to land on.
