Chapter 1 · Getting Started

1.5Quick Start

This procedure drapes a sheet of cloth over a sphere. It takes about two minutes and touches the modifiers you will use most.

To drape a cloth over a sphere:

  1. Create a Sphere with a radius of 25 at the origin.
  2. Create a Plane with a length and width of 100, one length segment and one width segment, and move it 50 units above the sphere.
  3. With the plane selected, go to the Modify panel and add Tnpix Garment. Set Edge length to 2.0. The plane is rebuilt into small, even triangles.
  4. Add Tnpix Gravity. A new Gravity modifier pulls down with Earth gravity in your scene's units.
  5. Add Tnpix Collision. Click Pick Object and click the sphere. The header reads 1 enabled / 1 objects.
  6. Add Tnpix Material Standard and choose Cotton (approx) from the preset list.
  7. Add Tnpix Solver at the top of the stack.
  8. Go to the first frame of the animation range and click Play. The cloth falls and drapes over the sphere.

Now try the things that make TenPix Cloth predictable:

  • Turn off Tnpix Gravity with its Enabled check box and play again: the cloth stays in the air. A simulation without a Gravity modifier has no gravity.
  • Remove the sphere from the Collision list and play again: the cloth falls through it. An object only collides once it is in a Collision list.
  • Change any Tnpix value and play from the start: the simulation is computed again with the new value.

When a shot is approved, add a Tnpix Cache above the Solver and save the simulation to a file. The cloth then plays from disk: fast, identical every time, and independent of changes further down the stack.
