Chapter 1 · Getting Started

1.3Installation

TenPix Cloth comes as one installer, a single .exe file. It installs the plug-in file, Tnpix.dlm, which is built for each 3ds Max version, together with the TenPix tools, toolbar and icons. Each run installs for one 3ds Max version; run the installer again for another version.

Close 3ds Max before you install or update the plug-in. A plug-in that 3ds Max has loaded cannot be replaced while it is running.

To install TenPix Cloth:

  1. Run the installer and choose the 3ds Max version. Check its installation folder, or point Setup to another one with Browse folder or Select 3dsmax.exe. Setup checks the version of that 3dsmax.exe and installs the matching Tnpix.dlm.
  2. Choose the plug-in folder. The default is the plugins folder of that 3ds Max installation; Tnpix.dlm is copied directly into the folder you choose.
  3. Choose the script folder for the TenPix tools, toolbar and icons, by default scripts\TenPixCloth in the 3ds Max folder. Setup creates its scripts, macroscripts and icons subfolders and registers them with 3ds Max.
  4. Optionally, install the TenPix Deadline workflow for a render farm (see Rendering on a Farm in Chapter 5), then finish the installation.

Installing another build, such as the licensed build over the demo, replaces the TenPix build already installed for that 3ds Max version. After installation the twenty TenPix modifiers appear in the Modifier List (their names begin with Tnpix), the Tnpix Threads Object appears under Create panel ▸ Geometry ▸ Tnpix, and the toolbar actions appear in the TenPix Cloth action category.

Checking your version

Select an object with a Tnpix Solver modifier and click About on the Solver panel. The About window shows the version and a build number. The build number is computed from the plug-in file that 3ds Max actually loaded, so it identifies the build you are running. The About window also opens the licence window and the third-party notices.
